TO-DAY’S SHOPPING PRICES LITTLE VARIATION But little change is recorded in the prices of to-day’s household commodities. The most appreciable drop has occurred in eggs, which have decreased Id, now selling: at 2s Bd. Butter prices at present are stable, but a rise in the retail price is early anticipated, consequent upon a similar rise having taken place in the Home markets. Best quality flour is offered at 251 b for 6s 6d, and 501 b for 12s 6d. In the -fish department prices remain as yesterday, flat fish Is per lb, and smoked fisb Is 2d; crayfish and oysters are fairly plentiful, and quite reasonably priced. In the vegetable market nice cauliflowers are selling at Is to Is 6d, with an extra large size at Is Bd. Fresh, crisp celery is now on sale at 8d to Is 6d per good-sized bundle. Fruit prices are rather prohibitive at present, but mandarins appear reasonably priced at Is to 2s per dozen. Island oranges are being offered for sale at 2s to 4s a dozen, while bananas cost 8d to Is 6d. A small quantity of new rhubarb is commanding from 8d to Is 6d per bundle. 1 Meat prices remain stable, pork sausages at lOd, beef sausages 4d, and luncheon sausage 6d, presenting nice meat dishes for a cold lunch. Mutton and veal prices remain the same. Lamb is scarce, and almost prohibitive in price. Many of the large houses are now commencing their sales, and by careful shopping, housewives should procure a variety of good bargains, especially as regards drapery lines.
