CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS AT BLENHEIM. Par Press AnßocintiAn BLENHEIM, July 22. The finals for the Wellington Centre boxing championships were decided tonight. An appeal was made on behalf of the Taranaki contestants' expenses, arid drew J 221. Mr. R. P. Furness's medal for the best display abong Marlborough competitors was awarded to Jack Rodda in the light-weight division. Results:— Featherweight.—Mark Carroll, 9st (Wellington) beat D. Livingstone, Bst 101 b (Wellington). In the first round Livingstone went to the floor for nine, and the second round was too fast to last. Livingstone was hit three times in the solar plexus, arid took the count. Bantam.—F. Nesbit, Bst l-Jlb (Manawatu) f< beat A. M. Burch, Bst. (Wellington), in a fast bout. Nesbit proved too. clever and scientific for the hard-hitting arid eager Wellington hoy. ’Heavy-weight.—Bob Fitzsimmons, 12st 31b (Wellington), beat Basil Hooper, 14st 101 b (Taranaki). Fitzsimmons went down for four at the end of the round, and.the'gong was welcome to the Wellington man. In the second Hooper went in for hard hitting, and Fitzsimmons went down for five. He made a wonderful recovery, and made a good showing against his weighty opponent. In .the third Hooper made use of his weight, but Fitzsimmons escaped punishment by good footwork. In the fourth round Fitzsimmons made the pace hot. landing some heavy ones and scoring all round. He showed more experieriee of ringcraft than tho big fellow It was a popular win. Light-weight.—Jack Rodda, 9st 101 b (Marlborough), beat Ted Morgan, 9st lllb (Wellington). Rodda forced tho fighting, Morgan scoring by better hits. The second round was even. Rodda made his points by forcing the fighting, and in the last round had Morgan hanging on. The light-heavy-weiglit was won by Gerald Evatt, who was unopposed. Welter-weight.—W. Walden, lOst 81b (Mariawatu), beat W. H. Pearce, lOst 91b. Walden just won the first and second rounds slightly from Pearce, and the third was an even round; and in the fourth Walden forced the fighting and had the Wellington man dancing round the ring.
