WAIKATO HEAT AUSTRALIA BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, July 22. ■ The Australian hockey players arrived from s Rotorua and| n were welcomed by the Mayor. . They played a Waikato team in wretched weatner conditions on a very greasy ground, wjuch. 1 upset, the visitors* game. The Waikato's more vigorous hitting was a deciding factor of the game. The visitors' forwards were unable to develop their attack smartly, while the Waikato halves wer© strong. In the middle of the first spell Finch (Waikato) shot, Clark stopped the .hall, but Tarr followed in and netted. Waikato pressed , consistently and the Australians conceded many corners. Waikato, playing splendidly < did not let up. From loose play neap the circle Finch obtained and scored. The Australians attacked strongly, Fletcher, in gbal, clearing brilliantly on two or three occasions. In the second half of the game the Australian combination was good* but the greasy ground upset several fine movements. In the middle “of the spell Booth shot hard from the wirig; putting Waikato three up.. Australia played determinedly and a series of well-execut-ed movements ended in Grey scoring. Two or three more strong movements were well.cleared by Fletcher, and the, game ended with play in midfield.. Waikato 3, Australia,!. : The team left for the south to-night. The first match of the season for tlie Nopera Cup was played to-day between Ruahine (holders) and Manawatu (challengers) and resulted in the- grime being drawn, one goal each. Ruahine B defeated Manawatu B by a goal to nil."
