Painleve. the Prime Minister, announced that Marshal Petain would remain in Morocco as long as circumstances demanded. He added that peace negotiations were proceeding, but at the same time all the necessary measures were being taken b> the French to consolidate their front, and to deliver a decisive stroke which would ensure lasting peace. Abd el Krim had been informed that two official emissaries of the French and Spanish Governments were in .possession of the terms of peace, and Abd el Krim could learn them it he wished. Published in “The Times.” (Received July 21, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 20. “The Times" correspondent in Pari* says Abd el Kriiu still appears confident of achieving a positive success.
Several unofficial French emissaries have been in contact with him-, lately, but he has given no sign that he desires to consider peace terms. Conse?uently the French* and Spanish, condiions, drawn up in Madrid, have not been communicated to him, bpt he knows they are available when he wants them. ,
