WELLINGTON SCOTTISH BODIES ONE SOCIETY APPROVES. For some years past efforts have been made to bring about an amalgamation between the Scottish bodies in Wellington, which have been divided into the Scottish Society and the Caledonian Society. Recently a meeting of the directors of the two societies was held, and agreed on a basis of amalgamation, this to be submitted to special general meetings of the two bodies for ratification. The meeting of the Scottish Society was held recently, Mr. G. Lauchlan, chieftain of the society, being in the chair. Delegates of the Caledonian Society were present, including Captain R. H. Nimmo, Mr A. B. Sievwright (hon. secretary), and Mr H. S. Hannah. A motion in favour of the suggested amalgamation was carried by an overwhelming majority. The meeting of the Caledonian Society to deal with the question will be held within the next few days. Speaking to a "Times" reporter after the meeting. Captain Nimmo said:—"lt has been found to be impossible for two societies to make any progress, and an amalgamation in absolutely necessary to permit of the Scottish organisation assuming that prominence to which it should attain in a city of Wellington's size.” He intimated that a site had been recently purchased in Dixon street on which it was proposed to erect a hall as headquarters, and prophesied a considerable increase in the activities of the or* ganisation in the near future.
