Wairarapa opened up the play with a great dash, Wyber, Desmond, Garland, Donald, Fairbrother, and S. Willoughby leading determined rushes into Hawke’s Bay territory, but Blake, Mill, or Oorkhill were always there to save. Donald started a movement whicih saw the Wairarapa backs well into the visitors’ twenty-five, but C. Brownlie and Ormond came away. From a penalty Cundy had an unsuccessful shot at goal. HOME TEAM’S ATTACK Another free kick to Wairarapa followed shortly after and a few. minutes later Jury, made a great dash for the Hawke’s Bay line before being smothered. Ormond, Kirkpatrick and Mahoney worked play past the halfway line hut Wairarapa soon returned to the attack. Nepia saved a certain score by a timely kick. The Hawke’s Bay backs were finding the sun troublesome and were not fielding the hall as well they might. F. Booth broke away and passed to Neighbours, who sent the leather on to Stringfellow, but the last named was pushed out about ten yards from the line. Back and forward Hawke’s Bay came away in a dangerous movement, M. Brownlie being collared when a soore looked within reach. Wairarapa did a good deal of offensive work but gradually Hawke's Bay got into their stride. Bonaldson (ex-Old Boys’, Wellington) injured his shoulder and retired and was replaced by M. Willoughby. M. BROWNLIE HOOTED Hawke’s Bay were playing a determined game and M. Brownlie . was subject at this juncture to .considerable hooting for alleged rough tactics. Led by S. Willoughby, Wyber, and Desmond, Wairarapa again attacked and kept the Bay backs busy, g. Willoughly smothered Nepia who, was just able to swing the ball to Blake, who found the line.. A weak kick by Cundy allowed Hawke’s Bay to swarm into Wairarapa territory, but good collaring stopped the movement. Walker, by a good solo effort, took play to near the Wairarapa line where M. Brownlie snapped up the ball and scored. Nepia failed with, ap easy kick. Hawke’s Bay 3, Wairarapa 0. BAY TEAM GET UPPER HAND Hawke’s Bay were now getting the unper hand, Nepia, Blake and Grenside doing splendidly in the, backs, and the two Brownlies and Ormond in the forwards. Wairarapa had a hot time defending, and relief came in a force down. Then a flash in the pan by Wairarapa, who took the hall to near the line was followed' bya Bay back attack from which Grenside eventually scored. Cundy making a feeble attempt at collaring. Nepia. failed with the kick. Hawke’s Bnv 6, Wairarapa 0. Shortly after Mill passed to Blake, who sent the hall to Falwasser, who scored in the corner. M. Brownlie failed, with the kick. Hawke’s Bay 9 W airarapa 0 Half-time came shortly after. HAWKE’S BAY IRRESISTIBLE The second spell was a debacle. Back and forward Wairarapa were outclassed. The Bay backs combined better than in the first spell and threw the ball about in great style, while the forwards often joined in. Mill went to half-back in this spell, and Corkhill to five-eigihtlis. Cundy gave a deplorable exhibition at full-hack for Wairarapa, and two or three times simply allowed Hawke’s Bay to score through his pot. making any real attempt to stop the man with the bull. A smart passing rush by tbe Bay backs saw Corkhill score a splendid

try. Mill’s kick failed. Hawke’s Bay 12, Wairarapa 0. Several times ,Nepia would make a good run and then set the Bay backs off on an invasion of Wairarapa territory. Neighbours, Flaws, and Jury did some splendid collaring and rush stopping. From a Bay attack Candy stood and let Irvine score. Corkhill failed to convert. Hawke’s Bay 15, Wairarapa 0. SCORE FOLLOWS SCORE Bay kept up pressure and then Falwasser scored. Nepia’s kick failed. Hawke’s Bay 18, Wairarapa 0. The next score was recorded by Blake, who received the ball from Falwasser, Cundy making a feeble attempt at collaring. Ncpia again failed. Hawke’s Bay 21, Wairarapa 0. 'Then M. Brownlie made a great run, passing to Corkhill, who scored. Grenside failed with the kick. Hawke’s Bay 24, Wairarapa 0. Bay kept on attacking and only on rare occasions did Wairarapa get into their opponents’ territory. The final score was recorded by Blake, who ran over with Cundy standing looking at him. Grenside converted, and final whistle sounded with the score: — Hawke’s Bay 29 Wairarapa 0 Mr H. J. McKenzie was the referee.
