BRILLIANT HOCKEY
AUSTRALIA ▼. AUCKLAND GAME ENDS IN DRAW. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 18. A brilliant exposition of hockey was provided by the match between Australia and Auckland which ended in a draw—one all. Right from the start it was apparent that the Auckland forwards were out to force the pace, and they created great excitement by rushing into the circle. However, the defence was equal to the occasion, and so it followed almost throughout the match. Auckland’s inner forwards did particularly fine work, only to be stopped by tile resourceful Australian backs. The first score came from a gradual movement by Australia, who worked up the field, and the Auckland goalkeeper was called on to save. From a resulting corner, Seaman opened Australia’s account. The Auckland forwards and shortly hefore half-time' the ball from a corner went .to Simpson, who hit across to Hookham on the left wing. Hookham sent it back in the air into the centre of the danger zone, and E. Watts flicked the falling ball into the net. The second spell was most exciting, but try as did the Auckland forwards they could not score. The Watts brothers looked dangerous several times, but on each occasion Australia saved.
