INTER-CLUB CONTEST. The first of this season’s inter-club heme ami home matches between the Federal Club and the Wellington Working Men’s Club was so closely contested in tho Federal Club rooms on Thursday evening that the final result was a tie, 51 games each. The outstanding feature of tho match was the very fine break in tile star game of billiards between Thicker (Federal) and Murphy (Working Men’s), when the latter player ran out with a faultlessly compiled break of 118 unfinished, and with the balls in good position to continue, if it were required. Tucker’s best break was 32. The scores were as follows : Billinrds— Federal -. Tucker, 99; Haughton, 78; Fordham, 150; Spencer, 150; Colien, 92. Working Men’s—Murphy, 250; Duncan, 150; Devine, 108; Bait, 70; Kyle. 150. Snooker—Federal: Wakem, 98; MorriSnu. v»>; King, 21; Woon, 29; Edwards, Gl; Duvey, 71. Working Men’s: Ford. 78; Savage. 40; Baker, 49; Willuiot, GO; Reid, 36; ltvan, 33. Mr Gledhill, president of the Federal Club, welcomed the visitors, and a very enjoyaable social evening was spent. At the conclusion of pluy Mr Searle, the vice-president, announced the results, and stressed the importance of these enjoyable social gatherings. Mr Ballard, president of the Men's Club, retumeJ thanks to the Federal Club fur their hospitality, and intimated that a return invitation would be sent from his club. The fine spirit engendered by these inter-club contests was desirable to maintain and foster. It was immaterial which club won or lost, but the good fellowship created was of great value.
