HUTT VALLEY HARRIERS
KENT WINS CHAMPIONSHIP. The above club held its club championship race over the championship course at the Hutt Park last Saturday, some twenty-seven members competing. A. Dor no quickly took the lead, followed with a bunch including McKee, Kent, Prebble. Smellie, Hurly, and G. Horne. After a good l race R, Kent ran out a winner in 38min 27sec. G. Dome beindi second, 39min lsec, and J. McKee third. 40min lsec. The next men to finish were A. Dome, Hutton, Smith, Ayne, Cfaig, Hurly, and J. Dome in that order. The sealed handicap was won byßutler with It. Kent second and A. Borne third. Butler ran an excellent raoe, and well deserved) his win. WELLINGTON HARRIERS MEMORIAL SHIELD EVENT. The above club held a race for the Old Bovs Memorial Shield at Trentham on Saturday. The trail, which was laid by F. Rowberry and A. Robinson, went from the finishing post in front of the grandstand, once around the steeplechase course, over hurdles and brush fences, and then from the two furlong poet out towards the rifle range until the hills were readied. Travelling along the foot of the hills towards Wallaceville the trail cut in through the laboratory grounds and hack on to the bottom of the racecourse straight, then on the finishing post. The officials for the 'race were: Mr W. H. Bennett, judge; Messrs F. Wilton and H. Lamb, timekeepers; Messrs A. "Watson, C. Rowberry, J. Smith, recording stewards, Mr F.- Wilton. starter. The distance was miles, and after & fast race Ray Watson succeeded in running into second place, a very good performance as he was giving away big handicaps. Hie time of 27min 36sec speaks for itself. The results of the race are: C. White. 30min 42sec (3min 40sec), 1; R. Watson, 27min 36see (ecr), 2; and F. Harlen, 31 23seo <3min 25sec), 3. Next Saturdav the club championship will be run at Miramar.
