TROTTING AT RACES

RACING CONFERENCE EVIPA^ SI YE. No action was taken by the New Zealand Racing Conference yesterday in the direction of encouraging trotting events at raoe meetings. Permission was, however, granted the Oamaru Jockey Club to include two trotting events in each day’s programme during the coming season. A similar application was read from the Waimate district hunt. The president (Sir George Clifford) remarked that sooner or later the conference would have to establish a limit for such privileges. Opposition was forthcoming from several members of the conference. ”T f the clubs are not able to carry on/’ said Mr J. H. Perrett (Wanganui), “the remedy is obvious, and has already been pointed out to them.” Mr G. N. McLean (Canterbury districts) said in his district several clubs would turn over to trots if not given permission to have trotting items at their meetings. On a division the application was granted for this year. At the request of the president of the Trotting Conference, the president advanced a suggestion that the Racing Conference remove the embargo which limited the number of trotting events at races to two. No action was taken.
