WOMEN’S LAWN TENNIS
WIGHTMAN CUP CONTEST ENGLISH TEAM CHOSEN. Australian and \ Z liable Association (Received June 10, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 9. A team of five women lawn tennis players, representing Britain, will sail for America after the Wimbledon tournament to play against the United States for the Wightman Cup, the women’s equivalent to the Davis Cup. Th 6 team includes Mrs Lambert Chambers, and Misses McKane, Colyer, and Joan Fry. MRS MELODY IN ENGLAND (Received June 10, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 10. In the second round of the Kent championships, Miss Morrison beat Mrs Melody (New Zealand), 4-6, 6-1, 6In the last two contests for the Wightman Cup the home team has won easily. In 1923 the United States won 7 0; in 1924, Britain won, 6—l. Apart from the veteran Mrs Chambers, the team chosen is composed of young players who have advanced rapidly in English tennis. Miss McKane is champion of England.
