PONEKE CLUB

FORMIDABLE COMBINATION

Poneke Club has gathered strength this season and is likely to put a worthy first fifteen into the field. A good number of last year’s senior team will be found in the ranks again. Both Shearers will play in the forwards, as also Caleinai, Slater, Walsh and Smith. While others available are Hall (half-back). Jessop (first five eighths), F. Tiiyard (second fiveeighths), B. Gibson (centre-three quarter), Hickey (past New Zealand wing three-quarter), M. Turner (three-quar-ter). ' Jessop was disabled by siokneflast year, and B. Gibson, whose injury to his ihoulder last year, cost him representative Tank, is again well. WYpghfl the full-back has returned to Hutt Club from which he came, and Ohristophevson may possibly fill the breach. D. AJgar is at present unfit but may play later on. New players include Wineera, the Johnsonville Maori representative. Thc jlub will follow its usual procedure and promote promising juniors. Two wing-three-quarters probably will c6me from intermediate grade to the senior team, and Collins. -Iso an intermediate boy. may be the full-back instead of Christopherson. It is strong in all grades, and expecto to do well in the club championship this year.
