RACE AGAINST TIME
CALIFORNIA TO CHICAGO. AND ALL FOR NOTHING! Reuter’s Telegram. (Received March 23, 5.5 p.m.) VANCOUVER, March 21. in a race against time, Mr William Wrigley, junior, the chewing gum magnate, chartered an airplane at Santa Catalina Island, California, yesterday, to convey a bond for 1,750,000 dollars to Chicago in connection with an appeal in litigation now before the courts. The Californian ’plane transferred the bond at Salt Lake to a United States mail service ’plane, which reached Chicago at 8.30 this morning, only to find that the bond had been placed by the local attorneys earlier.
