MURDER BY MOTOR
ELDERLY COUPLE KILLED. DRIVER BOLTS FOR SAFETY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright SYDNEY, March 21. An elderly couple, John Gurr, aged 71 years, and his wife, Mary, aged 60, were knocked down by a motor-car on the Parramatta road at Five Dock late last night, and received shocking injuries from which both died. The driver of the car did not stop, though, it is stated, he evidently saw the Gurrs, for the marks on the road subsequently showed how the brakes were applied just before running them down. After skidding for 28 yards the car resumed its journey. A motor-cyclist following gave chase, but lost sight of the car passing Burwood. Soon after the accident two young men told the police that shortly before the time of the accident they were' passed by a blue motor-car travelling between 40 and 50 miles an hour. The extraordinary speed prompted them to make a note of its number.
