JIGSAW PUZZLE

EUROPE SECURITY PROBLEM SITUATION WILL TAKE MONTHS TO CRYSTALLISE. MR CHAMBERLAIN’S REPORT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received March 22, 5.5 I ).rn.) LONDON, March 21. Cabinet has received Air Austen Chamberlain's report on the results of his conversations with M. Herriot in Paris, and his visit to the League Council in Geneva. The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent says Mr Chamberlain likened the security position to a jigsaw puzzle of which the pieces were lying chaotically, some requiring primming in order to fit them in. It may l>e necessary for some to ho rejected, and others inserted in their stead. Moreover, it is understood it was stated that surprise proposals may be forthcoming from Washington at any moment such as would modify the speed an dorder of procedure. It is admitted that Df. Benes’s proposal to divide Europe into two groups of nations, western and eastern, each bound by a security pact, might help the solution. The one fact clear, however, is that the European diplomatic outlook is still fluid, and will roqure months to crystallise.
