POLITICAL LEVY BILL
WILL CABINET SUPPORT IT f STRONG PARTY SUPPORT. , Reuter’s Telegram. (Received March 1, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 29. The critical question of the trade union political levy was discussed by Cabinet, who considered the report of a committee presided over hy Lord Birkenhead. It is stated that the ‘committee recommended the passing of legislation on tbe subject without delay, in view of the strong Conservative feeling throughout the country in favour of such action. -
According to the newspapers, a . majority of the Cabinet favoured the acceptance of the committee’s recommendation.
. Meanwhile notice has been given of both Labour and Liberal amendments ror the rejection of Mr F. A. Macquisfen’s hill. A series of Cabinet and other conferences were held yesterday, with reference to Mr Macquisten’s Political Tiie “Daily Telegraph” says tbe Government will --oppose the second reading of the bill, and insist that an inquiry into the working of the existing Act shall precede any amending legislation.
