A UNIQUE PICTURE. In the leading film at the Empress this week, entitled “Broadway After Dark,” the intoxicating spirit of the society night life is vividly portrayed, j Its cafes and night clubs are there in: all their splendour: The cast is an all-star one, including Adolphe. Menjou, Anna Q. Nilsson, Carmel Myers,; Norma Shearer, and 'Willard Louis, while the play comprises scenes of riot and luxury that beggar - description, episodes as, bizarre as any in the thousand and 0110 tales of the ArabianNights, a veritable fairyland of midnight adventure. Here, meetinj; Rose Dulane, a beautiful young girl, working as a slavey and shadowed by a detective wlio won’t let lier forget that she tes- served a term, in prison -for theft, lie decides, for a whim! merely to secure, if' possible, a new sensation, to send her into "society”, as his “ward,” and enjoy, with a saf dojlio humour, the complications that are boUnd to follow, They_suffire, however, to reveal to him what a ster-_ ling, loveable, yet strong and fine character Rose Dulan-e is; ;nd he awakens to the fact that he 10/ns her. The supporting films include a delightful comedy, “Robbing the •Rube.’ ’ and a more thaii uaurlly interesting topical news budget. ■■- The bright, breezy, sprightly, and sparkling incidental music is admirably rendered by .the Emprhss Select Orchcwtrn. under the able directorship of Mrs Dick.
