MIRAMAR GOLF CLUB

IMPROVEMENT OF TEES. DANGER AT THE FIFTEENTH HOLE. Mr J. P. Firth presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Miramar Golf Club last night. The annual report stated that at the close of the year there were 244 ordinary members in the men’s club, and. 132 in the ladies’ club, while the mid-week, country, nonplaying, absent and junior members numbered 117. The financial position was satisfactory, and after allowing for depreciation the year’s working account showed a surplus of .£s4 19s lid. The course had been in splendid condition throughout tho year, even during the summer months. The bunkering scheme and other improvement planned and commenced two years ago were practically completed during tho year, and the club might well feel proud of possessing a greatly improved course which provided a sound test of golf. The front of the clubhouse had been much improved by enlarging the putting course and erecting a more presentable fence. A motor mower was purchased for use on the putting course, and a “Fordson” tractor specially fitted for use on golf courses, and a five cutter mower had been ordered and should be delivered in March. .« The' greenkeeper’s house was put into good habitable condition during the year and was now occupied by the head greenkeeper. Trees planted during the last few years were now making rapid growth. This year more pohutukawas and ngaios were planted and shelter provided , for exposed, clumps. The course was offered to the New Zealand Golf 'Association for the New Zealand championship meeting in 1925, but the championships are to be held in tbe South Island this year. Miramar is under consideration for 1926. The New Zealand ladies’ championship for 1925 is to be held at Miramar.

The adoption of the report was agreed to, the president congratulating ttye club on being able to live.on' its revenue. The success of the bunkering scheme, which cost .£473, was due to the efforts} of Mr A, Ei 1 Conway and the profession- 1 al., # ' * Mr Stuart/Wilson said he thought they might now confidently ask the New Zea- | land Council to hold the pionships at Miramar. There were some I improvements which might be made and | which would be of benefit to new pi aye rB and those with long handicaps. Something might be done to improve the fairway in front of the first tee. The drain in front of the first tee should also be filled in, as it had been a trouble tc a lot of old players. (Laughter and apI plause). ELECTION OF OFFICERS. - , The, election of officers resulted as fob lows:—President. Mr J. P. Firth; vicepresidont, Messrs A, E. Mabin and M, J. Crombie; captain, Mr L. D. Hurst; secretary, and: treasurer, Mr T. R. Law-. ' son; committee Messrs Conway*’Magnus, Gambrill, Aplin, and Drake. INCREASED SUBSCRIPTION. For tho.purpose of providing the necessary; funds for payment of the club’s annual subscription to the New Zealand Golf Association, it was decided, that ordinary and mid-week- members and or-! dinary members (ladies and gentlemen) shall pay an additional 2s per annum each as part of their subscription. . THE FIFTEENTH HOLE. Air A. E. Conway said he wished to ! bring up the question of improving tho 15th hole, owing , to the danger exuding from its present condition/ Several play-; ore had been hit by balls from the first tee, including tbe captain. It was proposed that (he tee should be placed fuiv ther to the left end further forward/ The matter was turned clown last year,' but he thought- the time was rip© for; this to be -done, for it would matters at the 16th. Some blind shots had been altered, but others required at-; tention and professionals had also drawn, attention to improvements which were required. > They did not wish to lose an old feature, but where there was danger sentiment should be thrown overboard. He moved that the committee be authorised to proceed with the work. Mr J. Magnus seconded, saying it would/ be for the betterment of the course.

Mr Liddle moved an addition: "That the work he not done until" tho open drains across the fairway are piped and filled in.” Mr Mabin said the work should be don© and power should b© given the committee (o niter the crater green before the Now Zealand championships next yen r.

The proposed addition was defeated and the original motion was carried.
