In evidence' before the Federal Health Commission, Dr. Springtborpg said that from 1918 to 1922 Australia, lost by death 112,677 children unde* the age of five years. The Plunket system in New Zealand had reduced the corresponding death rate to three per thousand. The Commonwealth infantile death rate was 61 per thou, .sand, compared with 41 in New Zealand.
Victoria has the highest infantile death rate
