CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS WON BY UPPER HUTT. The senli-finals and the final for the Wiellington Centre .championship pairs were played at the Thorndon green yesterday afternoon under much less favourable weather conditions than the section play the day before. The sky was overcast, and a strong cold wind blowing, which interfered to some extent with the play. The Thorndon and the Upper llutt pairs were successful in the semifinals, beating Eastbourne and Victoria respectively. Upper Hutt easily disposed of Victoria bv 24 points to 12. but the other semi-final was very closely contested throughout, the game having to •be decided by a measure on the twentyfirst head, which gave Upper Hutt a win by the narrow margin of one point only. SEMI-FINALS RESULT. The results of the semi-finals were at under i— . Thorndon (Hyams, G. Munro, s) heal Eastbourne (Woolley, A. Munro s), 18 ta Upper Hutt (Goodwin, Naylor s) beat Victoria (Jamieson, Bolton s), 24 to 12. THE FINAL. In the final tbe game at the start was very equal, first one and then the other being ahead. On the ninth head Munro (Thorndon) was 8. while Naylor (Upper Hutt) was 7; but on the tenth Naylor gained two points. Naylor 9, Munro 8. On the eleventh, Hymns (Munro’s lead) drew close to the kitty, but Goodwin (the tipper Hutt lead) displaced him. and was lying two, close to the white, when the skips crossed over. The position was undisturbed at the close of the head. Naylor 11, Munro 8. A two and a one to Upper Hutt brought the score on the thirteenth head to—Naylor 14, Munro 8. On the fourteenth, a long head, Naylor was lying 5 or 6, but Munro, with his last bowl, drew tho shot, amid applause. N&ylor 14. Munro 9. On the fifteenth Munro gained- another point. He twice burnt the sixteenth head because the lie was against him, but finally Naylor won the head by 4 points. Naylor 18 Munro 10. On the seventeenth head, when the skips crossed over, Hyams was lying one shot, with two or three other counters. Naylor drew the shot, hut Munro drove with his third knocking Naylor out, and drew another with his last. Naylor 18, Munro 14. On the three following heads, however, Naylor scored 2 points each, i.i spite of the best endeavours of the Thorndon duo; and he thus Von the centre pairs championship for the Upper Hutt Club by 24 points to 14. On tbe call of Mr S. Fotter (president of the centro), who heartily congratulated the winners, and oomplimented the run-ners-up on their good fight, three cheers were given with a will for both pairs. C.T. GREATS FEDERAL CLUB. A howling match between the Wellington Federal Club and the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ Club took place at the Victoria Club’s green yesterday, the Commercial Travellers’ Club winning on the aggregate by 86 to-79. MERCHANTS AT PLAY WHOLESALERS DEFEAT RETAILERS The annual series of games between the Wholesale General Merchants and the Retailers took place at the Seatonn green on Wednesday afternoon, when Mho, Retailers were the guests of the Wholesalers. Additional interest attached to this year’s tournament by the announcement by Mr H. Townshend, local representative of Messrs Thompson and Hills, of Auckland, that his firm had donated a handsome challenge cup for competition each year. During an interval for afternoon tea, Messrs Press and Mowbray, on behalf of the Wholesalers, and Thomson, on behalf of the Retailers, expressed thanks to the donors and considered that the fixture would become more important each year. The thanks of all concerned were expressed by Mr Wylie to the directors of the Seatonn Bowling Club for the use of the whole of their green for the afternoon.

. ROTORUA TOURNEY. Per Press Association. ROTORUA, February 26. / The Rotorua bowling tournament ’has reached the final stage. The weather throughout has been perfect. Section A . was won by Needham (Palmerston North). In section B Roulston (Pukekohe) tied with Willcox (Rotorua). The play oft produced fine howls, the Pukekohe man winning by 19—16.
