ON HEW YEAR’S EVE
ERIVAN WRECKED. '‘eßßtF NOW SAFE. (Sydney "Sun" Cable.) CAPETOWN, January 19. The shipwrecked crew of the steamer Erivan arrived today. They say " that they l struck an uncharted rook on the night of December 3EUt, holing the hull. The weather was favourable. After five hours’ pulling they reached! Swan Island. They killed a seal ’ and made a fire from- the blnbber. - r Afterwards they pulled 17 miles to Howe Island, where the steamer Kilfenora was .lying. Two days later there was a terrific storm. ' The crew are Norwegians. An 5.0.8. from the Erivan was received at'the Cape on January Ist,-and it was supposed that she had ’gone down - with all her orew near Kerguelen. Island. No furrier news was received until the present message announcing the safe arrival of the whaler’s crew.
