TRIAL OF WILLIAM HOBBS. EVIDENCE OF CONSPIRACY. (Sydney “Sun” Cable.) LONDON, Deoebmer 25. Charles Wilkinson, giving evidence at the resumption of the Hobbs case, said that he bought Appleton’s business and employed Hobbe as chief clerk. He had not heard of the Hari Singh affair till Robinson sued Appleton’s for £120,000 the balance of the £160,000 with which Robinson had been credited through Appleton’s letter to the bank. Hobbs prepared his own defence, alleging that a conspiracy existed to find Mrs Robinson m the company of Hari Singh in Paris. The action, however, did not reach the court. Waters under cross-examination said that Hari Singh, during Captain Arthur’s absence, ordered him to arrange for private detectives to watch Mrs Robinson. Witness told Hari Singh of the conspiracy, whereupon Hari Singh stopped the second cheque. Captain Arthur was not aware of the cheque being stopped. Accused was remanded. Hobbs is charged with having received bankers’ cheques for £150,000, whioh cheques had been stolen from abroad. ARTHUR IN GAOL PENDING EXTRADITION CASE. Reuter’s Telegram. PARIS, December 25.
