BAILORS’ FRIEND SOCIETY. A ROUND OF FESTIVITIES. On Christmas Eve the festivities arranged for the seafarers were continued j with wonderful success. Sports were; carried out with vim, supper was serried, and a merry night passed. I | On Christmas. Day, Mr Moore, mis-1 sioner, preached at 11 a.m. on “The I Benefit of His Coming.” The lessons' I were of a seasonable nature. Miss M. j } Spencer was tbe instrumentalist. Each j man was presented with the season’s | greetings and a copy of “Tbo Psalms” as' he left. In the afternoon sports were entered upon with lieen earnestness in the spacious institute, under tbe leadership of the missioner, who was ably helped by his workers. Tea wae a happy event, the tables | being ‘ laden with dainties, and the happy mariners were much at home in the gaily decorated room, waited on by a willing band of workers led by Mrs Moore. The smokers were nob forgotten by well-wishers, and at the aftef-tea “smoko” the happy party smoked, chatted, and laughed io their hearts’ content. The pleasurable evening that followed till H p.m. would be hard to describe, j as game followed game or songs, and pianoforte pieces, led by Mrs Metcalfe, and mandoline items were given till the j enjoyment reached a high pitch. Thanks were tendered to all for help 60 readily given. All too soon the happy party had to break up, with prayers, . “The Doxology,” “God Save the King,” and “Auld Lang Syne.” The prize-winners were: Mrs Kebbel, Tbe prize-winners were: Mrs Kebbell, the Masses Oolpus, Spencer, and Messrs Everest, Cox, Newell, Limeburner, Chapman, Russell, Brown, Harvey, Smith, Jones, Crosson, Stevenson, Scott, and Roberts. On Boxing Day tho grounds proved too wet for sports, and they were therefore carried out in the fine institute of the society, where games of a delightful nature were indulged in by a merry party. Lunch, tea, and supper was served by the lady workers. Njew .Zealand beat England in a most novel football match, fought out with great zest. 'Tlie prize-winners were Mrs Kebbell, the Misses Eden, Saunderson, Kebbell, and Colpus, and Messrs Newell, Everest, Jones, Evans, Roberts, and Seesoon. The evening’s concert, presented by Miss V. Mueller, was a wonderful success, the encores being many. The performers were Mrs Metcalfe, tho Misses M. Harrison, M. Hunt, V. Mueller, and Messrs Bradley, Jones, Day, Seesoon, and R. G. Moore.

All who had donated service or gifts were heartily thanked for their kindness by tlie ringing cheers of the men.
