NEW AMBASSADOR

TO REPRESENT JAPAN IN U.S.A. MR MATSUDAIRA. Reuter’s Telegram. (Received December 17, 8.40 p.m.) TOKIO, December 15. Mr Tsuneo Matsudaira, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, has been appointed Ambassador at Washington. . Mr Matsudaira, after many years’ diplomatic experience in Peking, London, and Paris, joined the Japanese Foreign Office, where he was until recently director of the bureau of European and American affairs. Mr Masanao Hanihara, who has been Ambassador in Washington since 1923, ’resigned recently, following an indiscreet utterance during the period -of excitement attending the passing of the immigration law excluding the Japanese.
