NEW TELEPHONE CABLE
ADVANCEMENT IN SERVICE. j Per Press Association. ! CHRISTCHURCH, December 17. Mr E. A. Shrimpton, chief telegraph engineer, announces that an order has been placed for a new cable to be laid| between the North and South Islands, j so as to give proper telephonic communication. It will be over a year before the work is completed, but the system adopted will permit people in Invercargill to be heard clearly by people in Auckland. The Tutanekai will be equipped for the purpose of laying the . cable, which will land- on the beach at Seddon, Marlborough.
