MISHAP WITH FELLED CHIMNEY'
A mishap during the.felling of a 120 ft chimney, weighing 300 tons, caused excitement at Burton-on-Trent recently. ' There was a vacant space between some cottages and Marston'a Maltings- for the falling chimney, but the safety margin was only a few feet. The occupants of the cottages were asked to leave while the. operation was in progress. In falling the chimney twisted away a , hrcle and cut slantwise through the two- . story makings, doing damage estimated at several hundreds of . pounds. - The shock of the falling pile was felt like an «>rtkquake a 1 quarter bf r a mile away.
