"MEMBERS’ EXPENSES. HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL SUPPORTS MAKARA. Makara County Council was supported by toe Hutt County Council yesterday in connection with its determination relating to travelling allowances for memfiers of county qouncils. The Auditor-General is opposed to any payment to councillors other than mere train fares and other fares incurred when travelling to and "from meetings. Under the Act the council has the power to vote a reasonable sum to defray expenses, and it is contended that £1 Is is quite a reasonable amount. The Makara Council, said Mr A. J. Whiteman, was quite justified in the stand they had taken, and the Hutt Council should give its support. It was decided to fake part with the Makara body and endeavour to obtain the expenses asked for*
