COLLECTING THE RATES
IN HUTT COUNTY. “ADVERTISE—AND PROSECUTE I” The ratepayer who displays a passing apathy towards parting with the amount of his hates is once more this year ocou-pying-the attention of the Hutt County Council, which considered the position yesterday. As was .the case last year, said the clerk, much trouble was caused by the. ratepayer who failed to carry out his obligations. Would the council countenance the sending’ out of a final notice, which would cost about £lO or £l2? The chairman: The best way is to advertise, and then prosecute. It was decided to advertise the necessity of the payment of rates before the end of November, and after that more serious steps are to be taken against defaulters.
