CABINET MINISTER SHOT WORKMAN FIRES THREE SHOTS INTO TRAMCAR. ITALY HORROR-STRICKEN. Bv Telegraph.—T?ross Assn.—CoprrigV* Reuter'a- Teleg^ia. (Received September 14, 5.5 p.m.) ROME, September 12. A workman named Corvi fired three shots 'with a revolver at a traincar fatally wounding Deputy Casalini, Un-der-Secretary to the Fascist Corporation. The whole of Italy is horrorstricken at the crime which has still further increased the tension of the ‘nation’s nerves. Corvi, who is a car•penter, wae formerly a porter at Oasafini’s villa. Signor Caealini, who* was wounded in the forehead and temple, sank into a seat on the tramcar against hia four-teen-year-old -daughter murmuring: “They hfuve killed me.” Corvi threatened the conductor and passengers With a- revolver. He then- tried to escape, hut was caught by some passing Carabiniere and soldiers who had difficulty in protecting ham from the crowd who threatened to lynch him. Corvi, who appeared unbalanced and bordering on insanity, said he killed Signor Casalini in order to avenge a in idealism, Matfeotti. Signor Casalini was taken to hospital and expired on the operating table. APPEAL TO LAY DOWN ARMS. Cabinet is taking measure® to ensure public order.
