PROFESSOR HIDING
WITH PRICELESS DOCUMENT. AT WORK ON TRANSLATION. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received September 12, 7.40 p m.) LONDON, September 12. The “Daily Chronicle” correspondent in Rome says that Professor Martinofusco failed to answer the Government summons to appear and produce the 107 lost volumes of Liyy, which he claims to have found. His friends say he is hiding, and working secretly on the translation, and that he will appear to-morrow. The police searched the professor’s house, but found no trace of the volumes. Martinofusco is said to have discovered the 107 missing books of Livy’s I ’History of Rome.” The Italian Government will protect the rights over the documents, but will allow the discoverer liberty to translate them.
