THE HUTT ROAD

RIFT WITHIN THE LUTE CITY COUNCIL DEPUTATION TO COUNTY COUNCIL. THE EXTENSION PROPOSALS. The recent differences over Hutt road extension proposals, between the city council and one or two of the county councils concerned brought a deputation from the city to-day to the Makara Council meeting yesterday. The deputation consited of Councillor H. D. Bennett, Messrs J. O’Shea, city solicitor, and J. Patterson, city engineer. The members addressed the council for over an hour and a half, proceedings, however, being conducted in committee throughout The question of the Hutt road extension scheme has caused some consider[uble amount of trouble in official ciicles lately, chiefly on account of the Butt County Council signifying its intention of refusing to fall in line with the tity corporationIt was for the purpose of making an explanation on certain points that yesterday’s deputation waited upon toe Makara body. Further references to the Hutt road will be made at another meeting on Monday. It is understood, however, that in many circles a feeling of optimism as to satisfactory settlement has made itself apparent.
