At the inquest on the girl Dodds, Mrs Dodds was committed for trial on a charge of murdering her daughter. The police gave evidence that, on their arrival at the house, Mrs Dodds said: “I have a job for you at laslb. I am sorry I did not finish the two of us.” It is also alleged that she confessed that she battered the child’s head with a hammer.

Mrs Dodds and her daughter were found in the early morning of April 4th in a state of collapse. Both were severely gashed, and one of the child’s wrists was almost severed. A letter written by the mother was found, mentioning that a doctor had told her once that it would he better to commit suicide than bring her curse to another life.
