IN TWO CAMPS
FOR AND AGAINST McADOO. HOTHEAD PROPOSALS. Australian and. N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 7, 9.25 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 6. Radical measures are being threatened by both factions of the Smith group, to which are now gathered all the anti-McAdoo forces. They declare that if the deadlock is not ended they will unite and nominate, if possible, a compromise candidate, the one most prominently mentioned being Senator Robinson. Smith forces now appear to have one major aim, namely the defeat of McAdoo. ' COMPROMISE SCORNED. Many of the McAdoo supporters seam all talk of compromise, declaring that MaAdoo must he nominated now. They declare they are even ready to ask the convention to disband with out choosing a Presidential nominee. They would be willing to offer McAdoo as an independent Presidential candidate directly to the voters. Other hotheads among the MoAdoo group threaten to bolt the convention if anyone not acceptable to MoAdoo is named. WRECK OF PARTY FEARED. The country in the meantime is aghast over the Democratic disruptions, which some consider are spelling the destruction of one of the major parties, which is held to be so necessary for the successful operation of the American Government upon a bi-pnrtv system.
