BUYING A BARONETCY
WHAT A DISTILLER RAID. REMARKABLE STATEMENTS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, July 4. Remarkable statements in regard to an alleged purchase of a baronetcy were made at a meeting of creditors of the late Sir John Stewart, a distiller, of Dundee, who recently committed suicide. A, trustee stated that Sir John Stewart contributed 1 £50,000 sterling to party funds, but this was repaid to him in December, 1922, at his request, in order to avoid his bankruptcy. ' The trustee refused! to answer questions as to whom this money was paid. The representative of the large creditor suggested that the money was paid to Mr Lloyd George, and declared that he did not believe that £50,000 was the total paid for a baronetcy.
