How business in China, is facilitated was revealed in the King’s Bench Division by the Marconi Wireless Company’s agent, in China, who claimed from the company 5 per cent, commission on wireless contracts and attendant loans to the Chinese Government. Counsel for the defence said that during negotiations the Chinese War Office and Admiralty officials had to be compensated three times, receiving a sum of £90,000. Godfrey Isaacs, managing director of the Marconi Company, in evidence, said he did not approve suoh payments, and was not aware of them until they had been made. Witness believed that the amount paid was added to the contract price.
