THE KING’S PRIZE 1 THE FINAL FIFTY EXCELLENT SHOOTING AT TEENTHAM. RESULT OE LONG DISTANCE MATCHES. (“N.Z. Times”. Special Reporter.) TRENTHAM MILITARY CAMP, Friday. The final fifty irho will deoide the King’s Prize this morning are:— 1 tr n_• i_ /itt

\VUIiUIU/ WL. C. Harrison (Hawera) and DeputyPresident F. Kennedy (Frattklon) tied •for the fiftieth place with 458. A CONSISTENT SHOT. Captain Simmonds, of Wanganui, who heads the list for the King’s fifty, alto won the service championship, and the CStoxton Oup, as well as other awards at the present meeting. He is a steady and consistent shot, who has done exceedingly well at Trontham this year. 1 Captain BLmmonds should not be far from the top when the King’s Prize is decided. Captain Nejlscn, who is a member of the Napier Club, has also’ proved himself a ?capable marksman at the 1921 meeting, although his position so high on the list as second came as somewhat ! of a surprise. Although he has not occupied a prominent position, his scoring has been steadily maintained and Ins total accumulated, while the attention of the meeting has been fofcruaed ' on Captain Simmonds and Rifleman F. H. James, who headed the list on previous days. Tne third man is Rifleman Howard Feast, a brilliant young shot, who has rapidly come to the fore of late. He is a member of the Greytown Club He comes from a family well-known as rifle enthusiasts in the Wairaxana for many years past. His father, Mr Walter Feast, of Greytown, and brother, Mr J. C. Feast, also a cousin, Mr Wilfred Feast, have all been competitors at this meeting. An uncle, Sir 8. W. Feast, was also a prominent shot in the Wairarapa, and was formerly a competitor at the frentham meeting. With only three pointe 'behind Captain Neilsen, and eight behind Captain Sim montis, the score of Howard' Feast is highly creditable. Be is as ye* quite a young enthusiast, and more will be heard of him in. the future. PAST CHAMPIONS. D. (Roots, who won the Belt in 1911 and again in 1922, is fifth on the list with 485. The winner in 1020, H V. Ordxton, of Karori, occupies seventh position, with 484. Riflemen W. H. West and F. H. James, who have shot very well during the meetingj are ninth and tenth respectively, their scones being 484 and 483. President Masefield, the 1914 champion, with a total of 481, is placed twelfth. He now is associated with the Keke rangu Club. Another ex-champion, Deputy-President R. J. King, of Mas. terton, who won the Belt in 1.919, and also, as far back as 1903, holds the nineteenth position with 473. President W. H. Ballinger, of Petone, the winner in 1895, is placed just above last year’s champion, D. G. Loveday, of -Linton, who is 35th, on the list. Two men, L. C. Harrison and DeputyPjesident F. Kennedy, tied for the 60th place with 458. CLUB REPRESENTATIVES. The Petone Club leads with the number of representatives in the King’s Fifty, their total being five. Christchurch have four, Wanganui, Opaki "and suburbs have each three, while Patea, Greytown, Ldnton, Karori, Hawera, Akarana, Okawa, Napier, and Kiwi have two. Kekerangu, Timaru, Blenheim, Ohara, Featheiwton, Link water, Westport, Auckland), Waipukurau, Cambridge, Upper Hutt, Kaituna, Oman a, and Frankton, each have one representative in the contest for the Belt. THE OROXTON CUP. By heading the Bisley aggregate, Captain Simmonds won the Croxton Cup, which he will hold for a year. The winner, whose score*was 170, also took the B.S.A. riflo and the sum of £5. Captain Neilsen was a close second with one point behind, while D. Roots, the'ex-Patea champion, came third with 174. Howard Feast, whose total was 171, was allocated fourth place. President Masefield recorded the same score. TELE HAWKE’S BAY MATCH. The first match completed in the, morning was the Hawke’s Bay event, which was fired under somewhat tricky oonditione as far as the wind woe concerned, but nevertheless some good scores were returned. The winner was Rifleman J. F. Thompson, pf Greytown, with 47, and this has been his only win of any consequence to date at this meeting. The Wairarapa did

fairly -well in this event as the fifth man was also a member of the Greytown Club (Howard Feast, with 45). H. R. Hunt, of the Suburbs Club, was second with 46, the same total also being compiled by his club-mate, R. E. ! Hester. J. Brydon, of Kaiapoi, was fourth, with 45. The same score was made by Captain H. Simmonds, of AVanganui, the winner of the service championship, who is incidentally loading for the belt aggregate. He has shot most consistently throughout the meeting. There were numerous 43’s. F. Petersen, of Hawera, headed the “B n list with 44, President Coxhead, of Tahora, being second with 42. John Kairlsen (Ivanieri) and F. C. Hogg each made 40 and 39. A Featherston shot, Rifleman F. McKeich, a. member of the Kiwi Club, in the Taranaki match of 800 yard®, with a total of 47. Rifleman W. N. Wilkie, of Upper Hutt, was second in this event with a 46. This total was also compiled by Lieutenant W. Duncan, of Westport, Captain Neilsen* of Napier, and H. Loveday, of Ohura. Tne grade list was headed by W. J. Feast, of Greytown, with 44, Vice-president J. Kyle, of Linton, coining second with 42. C. J. Karlsen, F. Yates, and F. C. Standidge all took £1 with 42. R. G. Varlow headed the tyros with 43, and others who took £1 with 42 were Bombardier T. R. Lewis, G. D. Arnold, J. Bills, and Janies H. Frazer. The wind was decidedly tricky when this match was fired. CLUB COFFEE CUP. The winner of the Imperial Aggregate proved to he Rifleman R. H. Hunt,'of the Suburbs Club, with 365 points. Rifleman H. T. Boon, of Karori, who took £B, was second with 362. The weather to-day was in every way satisfactory, though the wind, which varied considerably, made matters difficult for marksmen, particularly in the afternoon. The morning was dull and overcast, but' the rain-clouds passed away.. There is now every promise for a fltye day for the conclusion of the meeting. This chief, event tomorrow (Saturday) morning will be the firing of the King’s Fifty for the belt, also the teams match North v. South Island.

Hie presentation of prizes will take place in the afternoon. Lady Rhodes is to perform the ceremony, and the Minister for Defence (the Hon. Sir Heaton Rhodes) " and the G.O.C.
