A POPULAR SCHEME
SCHOOL LIBRARY BOORS. SYSTEM RAPIDLY EXTENDING-* Thai the provision for lending cut hooka from the public libraries to the schools of the city and surrounding districts, is proving a popular one, is evidenced by the reports laid before the Cfity Council last night. The Wellington Library Committee reported that the issues during the past year showed an increase of 33,546; of this increase, the three Pet-one schools account for over 10.000 —the balance being generally distributed among the city schools. The total increase in the number of books sent nut to 33 schools i 9 837: this number is mora than accounted for by the Fetone schools. Mr J, B. F, Perry, librarian in charge of the school’s department, r«*ported that the total issue of books last year was 157,777, and there were fewer books lost, while books were returned in better condition than in previous years. This year, he had pent out 9821 volumes to 33 school?, and these books were made up into 131 separate collections. At the end of last year he received many letters expressing the appreciation of heau • masters and their various school committees.
