JAPAN WANTS PEACE

ADMIRAL SAITO’S VIEWS. The peaceful desires of the Japanese pooplo are explained by Vice-Admiral Saito in a short article contributed to the ‘‘Young Citizen,” the official organ of the Young Citizens’ League. The admiral, who was recently in Auckland in charge of the Japanese squadron, says he ia an ardent supporter of the Lealgne of Nations, and ados the young people of New Zealand to make an effort to understand the aims of his people, for he points out that they dislike the thought of war, and fervently desire to co-operate through the League of Nations for the peace of the world. “I was very pleased to hear there were sea scouts in Auckland,” continues the admiral. “Sea-power has been the backbone of British enter?.rise and colonisation. But for those amous sailors of old England, New Zealand might not have been British to-day. As in Auckland there is a very fine harbour for yachting, boating, and swimming you should keep this old tradition alive.”
