PARTRIDGES FROM HOME
RELEASED NEAR FEILDING. Yesterday morning a consignment of 20 pairs or Hungarian partridges, imported from England, reached’ Feilding in fulfilment of an order from the local Acclimatisation Society. The birds were received .by officers of the society, and taken ‘to the country, where they were released. This enterprise by the society is very much to be commended. In the meantime the partridges are absolutely protected, ana there is a severe penalty for any person molesting them in any way. Apart from the legal position, sportsmen are appealed to give the birds every chance. If they are left alone it is expected that in three or four years’ time there will he fine shooting available for holders of licenses.
