Messrs Levin and) Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated March 18th, 1924: "The auctions opened hero to-day with a large attendance of buyers and keen competition. ; Compared with the closing rates of the last sales, we quote:— Greasy merino, best, no change; greasy merino, average, no dhange; halfbred, £O/56*8, Id to lid per lb dearer; crossbred, 48/50’s, tdl to lb dearer; crossbreds, 46/48’s, Id to ljd per lb dearerffi crossbred, 44/46’s, 2jd per lb dearer; crossbred, 40/44’s, 2jd per lb dearer; crossbred, 96/40*8, 2d per lb deaTer; slipe wool, 10 per cent- to 15 per cent, dearer." BUYERS ACTIVE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 18th instant : Wool sales —At tho sales to-day competition Iby United Kingdom and Continental buyers was spirited. The catalogues were fairly representative and prices, as compared with preceding auction at this oentre, ruled:—About the same for merino, about 5 per cent, higher for fine crossbred, about 7J per oent. higher for medium crossbred, and about 10 per cent, tp'ls per cent, higher for coarse crossbred. CROSSBREDS ADVANCE. The Wairarapa Farmers’ 00-operative Association, Ltd., are in receipt of the following cablegram from their London agents under date March 18th:— “Wool sales oponed to-day and were largely attended by Home, Continental, and American buyers. Fine crossbred advanced 5 per cent, and medium and coarse crossbred advanced 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, compared with closing rates of previous sale." MARKET STRONG FOR CROSSBREDS. The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office tinder date March 18th:— "The sales have opened with strong competition and largo attendance of buyers. There is a good demand for all kinds of wool. Compared with the close of last sales, prices for all kinds of merinos show no quotable change. The market its strong for all crossbreds and, compared! with the close of last series, prioes for fine crossbreds are about Id to lid per lb higher, medium and coarse crossbreds are 2d to 2Jd per lb higher:" “GOOD DEMAND FROM CONTINENT." Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date of tho 28th instant:— "Wool sales opened, attendance of buyers is large, oonipetiton animated. There is an average eeleotion. Good damand from Continental and English buyers for all wools of good length. "As compared with last sale’s closing rates, prices for merino wools are unchanged. Greasy crossbred wools, fine quality. At the wool sales there was a very re* presontative selection of all sorts, including 5637 bales of New Zealand, 3404 bales Australian, and 2821 hales Puntas. There was a crowded attendance of buyers from all centres, including Germany. Crossbreds and all scoureds met excited competition. The fourth and final wool sale of the season was held to-night, 7077 hales being offered. There was a good muster of buyers. Prices were in sympathy with the riss reported at Wellington and Napier, and show an all-ronnd advance of id to Id on the last sale prices, particularly in low grade wools.
