OUR RAILWAYS
ELECTRIFICATION COMING. MINISTER’S OPINION. That the time may be much nearer than most people believe for the electrification of our railways, was the opinion expressed by the Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister for Railways and Public Works to a deputation of Waitakere and Swanson residents who waited upon him recently. The Minister’s remark was made in replying to requests for improvements to the railway service and stations. In considering all matters pertaining to the railways, the Minister said it was certain that the electrification of the railways was coming—that was evident from what had taken place in other parts of the world, and, bearing this fact in mind, the utmost care had now to be given to the railway service in New Zealand as the time when the Dominion would follow in the steps of countries with the electric railways might not be So/Tar as the majority of New Zealanders believed.
