EIGHTH OLYMPIAD. FINLAND LEADING NATION. Reuter’s Telegram. (Received January 28, 12.20 a.m.) LONDON, January 27. For the first contests in the winter sports section of the eighth Olympiad, at Chamonix, there was fine weather. There were twenty-seven competitors representing ten nations. The 500 metres' speed skating was won by the Amerioan, Jewtraw. Time, 44sec. Olsen (Norway) was second. The 6000 metres was won by Thunberg (Finland). Time, Bmin 39seo. Skntnabb (Finland) was second. The classification of the leading nations at the end of the day was: Finland, 201 points; Norway, 171 points; United States, 11 points.
