SUICIDE AT TE KUITI
“FOLICtE ARE AFTER ME.” EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. Per Press Association. TE KUITI. January 25. An inquest was held to-day on Patrick Duffy, who committed suicide yesterday by swallowing poison. The principal witless was It. J. Fcrriss, labourer, who said he knew deceased slightly. Duffy accosted him in th 6 main street saying: ‘’All detectives and police in New Zealand are after me. Detectives from Wanganui too.” Deceased gave withess £ll and a watch to mind, but Duffy did not return and the money was handed to the police. The police stated that Duffy was a labourer employed at Mahoenui by the Publio Works Department, and came trom Whangamomona, in the Wanganui district. Nothing was known against him and he had no relatives in the Dominion. A verdict of suicide whilst depressed was returned. ' The theory that deceased may be the murderer of Mrs Oates dees not gain official support, though impressions of deceased fingerprints were obtained.
