TAXI-DRIVER ASSAULTED
WHAT HAPPENED AT MIDNIGHT. YOUNG MAN FINED £o AND COSTS. Assaulting a taxi-driver and using obscene language to him resulted in the appearance at the Police Court yesterday of Arthur Douglas. Chief-Detective Cameron stated that at about midnight the accused asked a taxi-driver on the Clyde quay stand liow much ho would charge to drive him to Newtown. The taxi-driver named a price, which evidently did not meet with tho accused’s approval, for he then used the language complained of. He then went to the other taxi-drivers, but afterwards ictumed to the first one, and tried to persuade him to reduce his fare. Failing in this, he attempted to drag the taximan out of the car and proceeded to nssault him. Asked in court if ho had anything to say, tho accused replied that lie did not remember anything about the matter. On the charge of threatening behaviour, a fine of £3 and costs was imposed, and oil the second charge, £2 and costs.
