THEFT OF BENZINE

SENTENCE REVIEWED. Per Press Association. . AUCKLAND, January 24. A sentence of one month’s imprison* ment, passed last Friday on Walter Johnson, a railway fireman, for the theft of a case of benzine from Takanini railway station, was reviewed today by Mr Foynton, S.M.. who reduced the penalty to a fine of £5. Johnson' has been severely punished through his dismissal from the railway service. He was a married man with a family, and'was a first offender. The offence was serious, and future offenders, the magistrate said, might not en joy the same leniency.
