THE DREYER SYSTEM

keeping the youth fit. DEFECTS IN HEALTH NOTED. The Dreyer system, of assessing a boy’s physical fitness, introduced during the war, has been infpractice at Wellesley College during the year. The matter was touched upon In- the principal (Mr T. 9. Atkinson) last night in his address when he said that to chart a boy successfully takes at least half an hour, and the information so gained was of great value not only to the school hut to parents. By this method, which had the approval of leading medical men, it was possible to assess the state of physical fitness of each hoy to such a fine degree that a drop from normal in his general health would immediately be noticed, and the parents’ attention drawn to the fact, Medical attention could then be sought, and what might development© serious illness could thus be avoided. “This method, together with the term physical examination of each boy, should be a great help .both to parents and boys, as minor physical defects, more often unnoticed by parents and pnpils, are noted and the opportunity of early treatment for sucth defects is presented,’’ said Mr Atkinson. The working of this system was m the hands of an expert in Mr J. A. Duffy, who had experience abroad and was enthusiastic about the work. He is not only willing to co-operate with parents in’ regard to the health of the dovb, he added, bnt asked for their cooperation.
