DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

KEEN DEMAND AND GOOD PRICES. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, December 20. The first wool sale of the Dunedin series opened to-night, when three catalogues out of a total of eight Were disposed of, representing 4725 bales. Three was a full bench of buyers, about 62 operating, which, is the largest ever seen at a Dunedin wool sale. The three catalogues submitted did not contain the best wool to be offered, but, nevertheless, some good clips were included in those sold. Passings were rare, and there were probably not a dozen in the three catalogues. Continental representatives were eager buyers, and secured the bulk of the offering, but English, buyers and representatives of local mills operated keenly, and received a full quota. The wool offered was not quite of as good a quality as that offered at the Canterbury sales recently, but, considering the severe winter that had been passed through, it was surprisingly good. RANGE OF PRICES. Prioes for fine halfbred ranged from 24d to 273 d, and crossbred from 22d to 24Jd. Four bales of halfbred pieces brought 24d, and crossbred pieces up to 16d; halfbred bellies 163 d. By way of comparison with the first wool sale last year, it may he mentioned that a half-time clip brought the following prfoes : Ewe, this year 263 d, last year 223 d. Hogget, 26Jd to 223 d, 243 dto 23Jd. Ewe and wether 2od, 23d. Pieces, 193 d, 14d.
