WATER POSITION
CTILL CALLS FOR CARE CITIZENS ASKED TO EXERCISE RESTRAINT. KARORI POORLY OFF. Subsequent advice received by tfoi city waterworks and drainage engineer from Wainui indicates that Tuesday’s heavy rainfall did not prove nearly as beneficial as was anticipate.!. The water above Morton dam rose, of course, and duly commenced to overflow, hut there are now serious doubts held by the waterworks department as to how long this will continue. At Karori, though residents in trouble benefited by the additions to the contents of their tanks there is so far little difference in the level of the water in the reservoir there, the catchment area being a small one. Destitute of such growth as is to bo found at Wainui the area surrounding the Karori basin is not able to provide a steady flow into the resevoir, as much of the rainfall dries up again rapidly. Altogether, then, says Mr J. M Morice (waterworks engineer), the poll tion still calls for care and restrain', in using water, and citizens are asked not to waste the preoious fluid as the city is not yet out of the wood.
