PENSIONS ACT

NEED FOR AMENDMENT. Further reference to the need for an amendment to tho Pensions Act was made at yesterday’s meeting of the Hospital Board by Mr A. J. McCurdy who complained that the Minister’s reply to their previous representations was quite unsatisfactory. It completely ignored the chief ground for amendment, which was to the effect that while an old age pensioner could receive charitable aid grants up to £52 in one year without its affecting their pension, this did not apply to widow pensioners, against whose pensions every pension was debited. It was decided that the Minister should be again written to, emphasising this point, and again asking for amending legislation.
