Per Press J asocintion. DUNEDIN, October 20.

A conference of representatives of the Dunedin Chamber <»f Commerce, Otago Importers and Shippers- Association, and the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday to discuss the question of South Island shipping and the disabilities of importers and exporters in the south. The following remit, forwarded by the Invercargill chambers to a conference to be held in Auckland next month, was Unanimously approved:

NATIONAL SHIRRING COMMITTEE.

“That the present methods of ai~ ranging overseas freights and mail services bv separate and independent authorities is not in the best interests of consumers and producers; that the time io opportune and the Government should he requested to secure the necessary powers to appoint a national shipping committee composed of representatives of the Meat Control Board and Postal Department, the associated Chambers of Commerce, and the dairy producers’ associations, and as the representatives are acting in a similar capacity now, there should be no great question of payment to members, should such national committee function, and the services of the Department of Industries and Commerce could be utilised for administrative duties. ”
